Message From Speech Therapists

Give Me 10 Time-Ten Red Apples
This week in therapy we have been reading the book “Ten Red Apples” by Pat Hutchins.  This book has lots of repetitive language and counting and is a fun review of animal names and sounds.  On Youtube there are readings of the book you can watch together with your child.  Cheer and clap to the rhythm each time you hear “Yippee! Fiddle-dee-fee!”

Go on a treasure hunt around your house and find items that are red.  Name the items using 2-4 word phrases such as “it’s a cup” or “I see a cup.”  Help your child recall 3-4 of the items you found.
Here is a fun action poem.  Model the actions and words for your child, encourage him or her to begin to imitate the actions and the last word of each line.  Sometimes children need lots of exposure before feeling comfortable to imitate or use words.  Keep repeating the poem.  It might take 4-5 times before your child will start to imitate.
