Message from Speech Therapists

Give Me 10 Time
This week in speech therapy we are reading The Little Blue Truck. It is a fun rhyming book with lots of farm animals.  Rhyming books often create a nice rhythm.  Using music and rhythm can be an important tool for children with delayed language.  Through rhythm and rhyme, children can learn a slower and more rhythmic rate of speech that can support more intelligible communication.  So this week, turn on the music and spend some time marching and clapping to the beat.  To extend play with the book more, here are some animal pictures.  Model the actions as well as the animal sounds.  See if your child will imitate.  Can you and your child make up actions for other animals?

Chop like an alligator

Shiver like a polar bear

Hop like a bunny

Pounce like a cat

Peck like a chicken

Chew like a cow
