Week of January 25th-29th

Hi Families,

The children were scientists and writers this week. At small group they preformed two science experiments; the magic milk and dancing raisins. We discussed that as scientists we needed to make a hypothesis about what was going to happen during these experiments. At small group the children each made their own hypothesis and then had to decided if their hypothesis was correct or incorrect. If you would like to recreate any of these experiments at home, send me an email and I give you a list of materials and sets.

At large group we did our first writing focused read aloud, where we focused on key element in writing a book. We read the book Snowmen at Night, and focused on the illustrations. The children made an observation that on every page of the book there was a snowman, my challenge for them was to be like the illustrator and make a book with something on every page. The children then had free reign during work time to create their own books. It was an amazing sight to see, all around the room children were sitting and create books; becoming authors. A few of the children asked to share their final products at recall.

Next week we will be doing another writing focused read aloud and some fun valentines day activities through out the week.

Butter Braids:
Pick up for butter braids is Tuesday at 3:30 at the BECC. If you placed an order please come and pick up your treats!

Outside Gear:
I check the weather for the week and it looks like we will be able to go outside! Please make sure that your child is sent to school in a warmer coat, especially in the morning!

Spring Parties/Valentines:
Please keep signing up for Spring Parties, they will be on February 11&12. There we will also be passing out valentines. Here are the number of valentines that each children will need to pass out. To make passing out valentines easier, I would ask that you have your child just sign their name and that way they can pass out valentines to their friends.
