Week of November 23-25

Hi Families,

Our short week has come to an end! This week the children did some fun Thanksgiving activities. At large group we listen to the story, There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Pie and Bear Snored On. The children did a great job participating and reading along with the stories. At small group the children used do-a-dot stamper to match colors and numbers with turkeys, they also played a build-a-turkey dice game, where each child rolled a dice and together built a whole turkey. We are being to pick up momentum during clean up time, this week the children have been pre-selecting areas that want to help clean up in, they are working towards taking responsibility for cleaning up their own materials through out work time so that during clean up time the mess is not quite as large.

Next Week:

Scholastic Book Fair:
The book fair will be in the gross motor room all next week, please make sure to stop by and check out some of the awesome books! I sent home your child with a catalog of the books that will be there. Please take a look and see if there are any books you want to order.

Outside Time:
With the snow and cold weather coming, please make sure that you are sending the children to school with warm winter coats and shoes. In the morning the weather is especially cold and there are icy patches on the playground. Please send your child to school in appropriate winter shoes, preferably with traction and ones that can with stand getting wet from snow or melting snow.

Backpack and Folders:
Please be sending your child to school with their backpack and folder everyday! We want to make ensure that all papers that are getting sent home, make it home. If you have misplaced your folder or need a new one, please let me know,  I have extras :)

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving and long weekend! As always, please email me with any questions :)

Week of November 16-20

Hi Families,

I do apologize for the lateness of this post. Last week the children were working on their pre-writing/fine motor skills and social learning. At large group the children and I read a book about being super friends and what it means to be a super friend in our classroom. All week we highlighted different ways we can be super friends in our classroom, we even create a super friend pose! At small group the children practiced using their fine motor skills and cut play-dough with scissors. The children had a blast at the fall parties, thank you to all the parent volunteers who came and helped!

This week we will be doing some fun Thanksgiving activities. Today Ms. Valyne came to large and read us the book There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Pie, the children helped her recall the different foods she ate at the Thanksgiving dinner. At small group the children will be doing some fun do-a-dot painting and rolling dice games to make a turkey.

Thanksgiving Break:
School will be closed November 26&27 for Thanksgiving!

 Book Fair:
Thank you to everyone who has donated their spare change for the book fair! The book fair will be next week. I sent home catalogs to look through and preview what will be there.

Again , I do apologize for the lateness of this post. I will make sure to have my next weekly update posted during the weekend!

Please let me know if you have any questions!

Week of November 9th-13th

Hi Families,

This week the children did a lot of work with patterns and pre-writing. At greeting time the children were pattern experts. They helped read and extend different AB patterns each day at greeting time. At large group the children danced with scarves and used their whole body to make different pre-writing stroke, such as zip down, zoo across, and slide down. We also read the book Press Here, by Hevre Tullet, and identify the pattern with in the book. At small group the children practiced writing their pre-writing strokes in shaving cream. They have been working really hard at starting their letters "from the top" and stopping at the bottom. The children also practiced copying and extending AB patterns, some of the children even went on to copy and extend AABB and ABC patterns. The children have been doing a great job of extending patterns.

Next week we are going to continue working on pre-writing strokes and fine motor skills as well as continue working on social skills. The children have been doing a wonderful job of sticking to our daily schedule and beginning of the day routine, now it is time for some fine tuning of the students sharing skills.

Fall Parties:
Fall parties will be this Thursday and Friday. The morning class will have their parties at 11:00am-11:30am and the afternoon parties will be at 3:00-3:30pm. Week of November 2-6

Hi Families,

The children had a great time working with pumpkins this week! They created some observational drawings of the outside of the pumpkin and then had to the chance to scoop out the pumpkin seeds and goop. The children learned about the different parts of the pumpkin, such as the shell, stem, the veins (grooves on the outside) and the seeds. In small group the children began making their own pumpkin seeds counting book. We will be finishing up these books on Monday.

This coming week we will be working on patterns and pre-writing. The children have already been doing a great job signing in on the clip board in the morning, I cannot wait to see what they learn and how they progress with their pre-writing strokes.

Winter/Cold Weather Clothes:
I have sent home all of the children's extra clothes if they contained shorts or warmer weather clothes. Please send back warmer winter/fall clothes in a plastic bag with your child's name on it.

Also please make sure that you are sending your child to school in a jacket/sweater. The weather is very up and down, especially in the morning. We will be going outside everyday unless it is raining or below 25 degrees, which hopefully we won't have to worry about for a while :)

Fall Parties:
Fall parties will be taking place this coming week on Thursday the 19th and Friday the 20th. The parties will be at 11:00am and 3:30pm on both days. If you would like to come in and volunteer to help I will be sending out a sign-up genius (what we used for conferences) so that we can get an estimate of how many families will be coming. If you would like to come make sure that you have a background check completed and turned in. Background checks are valid for 3 years. If you are not sure if you background check in still valid or has been approved please contact Kelly Wood and she will let you know.

School Pictures:
Pictures are for NEW or absent students only. Pictures will be on November 10th at 9-10am. If your child does not come to school on Tuesdays you can still come to building have your child's picture taken. This is the only day that we are offering pictures to be taken for NEW students or for students who were absent on picture day at the beginning of the year. You should have received a school form for your child this week.

Please let me know if you have any questions and have a restful Sunday :)

Week of October 26-30

Hi Families,

I hope that you all had a wonderful 2 weeks of Fall Break! The children had a wonderful week back! This week the children participated in some fun and festive Halloween and Fall activities. At large group the children read a few different Halloween themed books, such as, The Little Old Lady Who Wasn't Afraid of Anything and Halloween Day. The children also pretended to feed a hungry spider by throwing bugs (cotton balls) at a masking tape web. At small group the children created their own play-dough jack-o-lanterns and painted with creepy crawly spiders. On Friday the children practiced trick-or-treating around the building in preparation for this Saturday. The children discussed the different steps and sequences of trick-or-treating and even received a few prizes! This coming week the children will be exploring pumpkins. We will first be exploring and learning about the exterior of the pumpkins. We will be looking at the size and weight of pumpkins, then we will discuss and discover if pumpkins sink or float.  Later we will be opening up the pumpkins and learn about what is inside!

Clothes:
With the change in weather we will be sending home the children's summer/warm weather clothes, please send an extra change of cold weather clothes to school. Please send the clothes in a plastic bag with your child's name on it.

Parent Teacher Conferences:
If you needed to reschedule/missed your parent teacher conference, please contact me via email to reschedule your conference. I want to make sure that I am able to meet with all families and talk about the wonderful things your children are doing!

Snakehead ED:
Once again Snakehead ED has been cancelled. Hopefully we will be able to reschedule. Once a date and time have been established I will send that information out via email.
